Checklist: do you have these 6 types of people in your life… because you should!
‘You’re the average of the five people that you spend the most time with’ – Jim Rohn.
We’ve all heard the saying, but do you believe it? Well you should!
Think about it… your daughter is getting bullied at school yet despite being a beautiful, loving and caring soul, she starts to believe it when they tell her she’s ugly. Your friend has shacked up with some loser dude who tells her she’ll never amount to anything, and eventually she starts to believe it. The little devil on your shoulder tells you that you need to shed a few kilos but whispers in your ear to eat the doughnuts. See what I am getting at?
I am here to tell you to get away from those people who put you down, create doubt and limit your self-belief. In fact RUN because it’s time to surround yourself with people who project positively onto you. Surround yourself with people that lift you up, empower you and tell you that you can achieve anything you want and that they’ll help you to get there.
Here are 6 types of people to surround yourself with if you want success:
1. The Motivator – that person that lifts your spirits, inspires you and gets you off the couch when you need it most. It could be someone you know, an influencer, mentor or someone you admire.
2. The Truth Teller – the person that’s going to tell you how it is, whether you want to hear it or not. You trust their opinion and honestly belief they want the best for you.
3. The Accountability Buddy – the person who keeps you accountable to your goals, pushes you when you’re struggling for motivation and reminds you that ticking off your to-do list is important to get what you want in life.
4. The Networker – “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know”. We all know someone who knows everyone, which can be extremely helpful when calling in favours. A word of caution here, I am not saying use a friend for the connections they have, just know that you have that person in the Rolodex if you ever get stuck. Also they often throw great parties!
5. The Teacher or Mentor – the person or people who encourage you to know more, learn, grow and push your boundaries for greater success. The more you have of them, the better because we should never stop learning! And learning from other’s experiences (aka mistakes) is a great way to get ahead.
6. The Cheerleader – usually your family or friends you’re closest to. These people advocate for you, cheer you on, promote you to everyone they know and celebrate your wins with you! And because business is HARD, are also happy to lend a shoulder to cry on.
Who are these people for you?
After being a small business owner for 25 years, I sold my business to concentrate on my true passion: people.
I want to help you find your WHY and your HOW, and to make the necessary changes to improve your business and personal life. Taking control of where you are, but more importantly where you want to be, is what it is all about.
You need to work out what is stopping you, and what changes need to be made or improved on, so you can move forward with gusto and determination. Go get the life you want, it's ready for you!
I’d love to hear from you. x TM.
